One of my end of year stresses that knocked me off track with my blogging was losing my job. Or I suppose not exactly losing it so much as finding out that the contract would not be renewed.
If you’re not familiar, I’ve been working as a nanny for a few years. The job I just finished I worked at for 2 1/2 years, until the families decided to move to a different model of care.
I had plenty of time to get used to the idea, in theory. I was lucky enough to be able to have the whole of December off as paid holiday time. Unfortunately between being ill, a death in the family etc. it all started to feel a bit much.
I started casually putting out feelers to find a new job. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but decided to keep looking at childcare work for the time being and maybe see about studying in the autumn.
Well, today I got a job. Kind of, at least. We’ll have a test run on the 14th, and if that goes well then the job is mine. It meets almost all my requirements – good number of hours, not too many children, good level of pay, and I get to use English as my working language still which is nice, though it doesn’t help to improve my Finnish. It’s a bit more of a commute than I’d prefer, but it’ll do.
All going well I would only have about two weeks of being between jobs, which is not bad going! I just need to try to make sure I use the intervening time productively in the hopes that I can keep on target with all 3(!) of my blogs (plus my YouTube channel and Instagram accounts) even when I’m back to working regularly.
Wish me luck.
