Freezers and burgers and plans, oh my!
Husband’s starting a new job placement next week. Whilst this is a good thing it does put a bit of a spanner in the works. See, husband normally starts on making food before I get home, so that it can be ready not long after I get in. I still help out a bit once I arrive, but this way I don’t have to deal with making food when I’m already tired out from work. But now he is going to be tired out from work too. Plus, when he works the later shift he won’t be home at dinner time anyway.
After thinking it over we figured it would be a good idea to make ahead and freeze a bunch of meals. We would still cook fresh food some days, but it gives us easy things to eat on days that we’re both exhausted. However, our freezer doesn’t really have a lot of space for freezer meals. So we’re thinking of buying a cheap mini freezer to keep the pre-prepared meals in. We had a look online and found a couple of options, and we’re going to go and have a look at them tomorrow. I’ve already moved money around in our budget to cover the more expensive of the option, and if we end up choosing the cheaper one we can put some of the money back in the categories we borrowed it from.
Whilst we were sorting out the plan to go to look at the freezers after work tomorrow I remembered that we’ve been meaning to go to another shop over that way, and we should probably try to do that at the same time. Which does mean we’ll be out longer… And we’re not likely to want to cook when we get in. I suggested that we eat out instead – we got some coupons in the post yesterday for a particular burger chain, and we decided we’ll make a ‘date’ of it and get the burgers to eat whilst we’re out too. Less stress that way!
I realised this is the first appliance we’ll be buying ourselves. We did buy our own dishwasher and washing machine when we moved to our first own flat, but MIL and FIL were with us when we shopped for them, helping us with the decision making process. This is the first time, as far as I recall, that we’ll be doing it all ourselves. Does that mean we’re real adults now?!
