During the winter here in Finland the ice often gets thick enough that people walk across it. In seven years of living here I’ve still not done it myself. Perhaps it’s because, growing up in England, it was very rare for icy lakes or rivers to be safe to walk on, and the idea of it still makes me feel like it’s going to crack and I’ll end up drowning…
Now everything is thawing. Clearly it’s no longer safe to walk on the ice, given that most of it is gone! There’s still a lot of slushiness, as well as some large chunks of ice floating in the water. They’re interesting looking, don’t you think?
