Today is husband’s birthday. About a week ago I asked him what sort of cake he wanted. I had a couple of suggestions in mind, but then he designed his own cake. It’s not what I would have thought of, but it’s what he wanted, so it’s what he got!
It was reasonably simple to make. Two layers of plain sponge – nothing unusual there. For the filling he wanted jaffa cakes. Yup. We dismantled ten jaffa cakes, removing the sponge part, and put the chocolate and orange part onto the top of the lower layer of cake. Then I piped on whipped cream, and we put the second layer on top. And of course covered the whole thing with more whipped cream (a bit messily…) And another jaffa cake on the top for decoration. Why not.
Personally I prefer icing to whipped cream on a cake, but husband was happy with it, and that’s the main thing!
